Exotic and intensely sweet. Starfruit, lychee, purple florals and citrus zest. This is one of those coffees that’s just absolutely beautiful. It offers some of the very best qualities found in high-altitude Ethiopian naturals: incredible complexity, intense sweetness and a wildly exotic character, all with a striking sense of balance. Depending on how it’s brewed, hints of watermelon become more or less prominent. A myriad of tropical fruits may come to mind as you nudge the coffee in different directions. Super complex and expressive while still being clean. This is an especially fun coffee to explore as both filter and espresso given the array of nuance packed inside these tiny seeds.

The producer & process
Basha specializes in dry processing, with cherry flotation and close attention to drying across his operation. Selected lots receive slower shade drying as he continues refining his methods. In 2024, a natural coffee from Basha won Ethiopia’s Cup of Excellence. Crop to Cup reports that he has made additional payments to supplying growers after their coffee sold.
Gonjobe is a natural selection of variety 74158 from Basha Bekele in Bensa, Sidama, sourced through Crop to Cup. This lot is from the 2026 crop. Basha’s connection to coffee began in the cooperative system alongside his father, who once managed a cooperative in Bombe. Today Basha farms 12 hectares in and around Bombe. Across his wider operation, he buys cherries from more than 150 neighboring growers.

Our standard pour-over starts with 15 g of coffee and 225–240 g of water at 88–92°C. Adjust for your grinder and the coffee’s time off roast.
Leave the bag sealed for at least two weeks after the roast date. Most of our coffees taste best around four weeks after roast.
